Email Art is a relatively new art form, invented by artist Ray Johnson. It is ephemeral and meant to be non-commercial. Emailable digital images are created in many ways - traditional image making methods are often combined with wholly digital techniques. The final product is a digital file.
San Francisco artist Don Golder has adopted the concept of email art and these digital images show the latest step in the evolution of his own personal image vocabulary and style. His images displayed here are downloadable so that any viewer may share them with others. Golder says, "I like the potential for sharing, how it might lead to community, anti-commercialism. It would be especially interesting to have people add their own elaborations and see what evolves. I suspect there is already a sizeable community of email artists out there."
Don Golder works in traditional media (ink, charcoal, oils) as well as creating art with a computer. Golder grew up in the Pittsburg area and graduated from Allegheny College.
