The Wrangell/St. Elias Mountains border two countries: to the west is Alaska in the United States (the highest peak being Mt. St. Elias at 18,008 feet) and to the east is the Yukon Territory of Canada (Mt Logan is 19,551 feet). The flowers in the foreground are fireweed. There is a saying in Alaska, “When the fireweed turns to cotton, the summer is soon forgotten”, which happens around mid-August.
